Why Brussels is different

Oceanic climate, EU diplomacy, and Art Nouveau heritage

Brussels rooftops sit in one of Europe's most diplomatic climates – the home of the EU institutions, NATO and most European capital embassies. Weather is oceanic temperate – mild but wet, often overcast, with occasional Atlantic wind events. The city's Art Nouveau and Belle Époque heritage is protected by the Commission Royale des Monuments et des Sites; permis d\'urbanisme runs through the Service Public Régional de Bruxelles.

We work in this tension daily: with Belgian architects, structural engineers and heritage consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of clients between Uccle villas, Ixelles townhouses and Tervuren estates. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, oceanic curation, and the wellness elements (spa, sauna, outdoor kitchen) that turn a Brussels roof into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Brussels approach

Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration

  • Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation.
  • Oceanic palette – evergreen structure (yew, boxwood, holly, hornbeam), shade-tolerant layers (Japanese maple, hydrangea, hellebore, ferns), wind-resilient accents and Mediterranean micro-zones.
  • Wellness architecture – spa, sauna and outdoor kitchen integration on tight townhouse and villa geometries.
  • Heritage-aware execution – structural engineering, Commission Royale consultation in heritage zones, permis d\'urbanisme submissions where required.

Areas we serve

Across Brussels and the residential suburbs

Most of our Brussels work is concentrated in penthouse residences in the inner communes and villa rooftops in the southern suburbs. We also handle select hospitality and diplomatic projects.

How a Brussels project unfolds

From first conversation to handover

  1. 01

    Understanding before drawing

Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (heritage zone, weather exposure, structure, microclimate).

  2. 02

    Concept and curation

A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.

  3. 03

    Engineering and consent

Load calculations with structural engineer, Commission Royale consultation in heritage zones, permis d\'urbanisme submissions where required, coordination with the building's architect and interior designer.

  4. 04

    Installation and handover

Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are pre-conditioned in our Berlin nursery. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.

Frequently asked

What clients usually want to know first

Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Brussels?
Yes. Most of our Brussels work is penthouse residences and townhouse roof gardens across Uccle, Ixelles, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Watermael-Boitsfort and Saint-Gilles, plus villa rooftops in Tervuren and Lasne.
How do you handle the oceanic climate?
With moisture-tolerant plant material, drainage engineered for frequent rainfall, wind-resilient species selection and frost-proof substrate composition.
How long does a typical Brussels project take?
Between three and ten months from first conversation to handover. Larger Uccle or Tervuren villas with wellness architecture often need six to twelve months of planning.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
