Rooftop Terrace Design · Cartagena
From Centro Histórico to Islas del Rosario
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Cartagena's most discerning colonial palacetes and Caribbean-island estates, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and hurricane-rated wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Cartagena is different
UNESCO walled city, the Caribbean palacete tradition, and Islas del Rosario
Cartagena de Indias is one of the most architecturally complete pre-Colonial Latin American cities. The Centro Histórico walled city with its Castillo de San Felipe is UNESCO World Heritage protected; San Diego adjoins as the calmer heritage quarter; Getsemaní preserves the artisan-quarter casa tradition; Bocagrande and Castillogrande form the contemporary beachfront-condominium HNWI belt; Manga adds the peninsula villa tradition; Tierra Bomba, Barú and Islas del Rosario extend the lifestyle to the Caribbean islands. Climate is tropical savanna with year-round 28–32°C, intense UV, salt-laden trade winds and occasional Atlantic hurricane impact.
We work in this tension daily: with Colombian SCA-registered architects and structural engineers, with Alcaldía Mayor de Cartagena and IPCC UNESCO consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Cartagena clients between Centro Histórico palacetes, San Diego and Getsemaní heritage casas, Bocagrande and Castillogrande condominiums, Manga peninsula villas, Tierra Bomba and Barú island estates, plus Islas del Rosario private-island projects. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Caribbean-Colombian curation, and the wellness elements (sunset terrace, outdoor kitchen, pool deck, jungle-shaded pavilion) that turn a Cartagena rooftop into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Cartagena approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation under Caribbean humidity and salt stress.
- Caribbean-Colombian palette – structural specimens (royal palm, coconut palm, sea grape, ceiba, mahogany, guayacán), tropical evergreens (Plumeria, Hibiscus, Ixora, Allamanda, Bougainvillea), flowering accents (Colombian orchids, heliconia, bird of paradise, anthurium), salt-tolerant succulents.
- Wellness architecture – sunset terrace, outdoor kitchen, pool deck and jungle-shaded pavilion integration with walled city, Caribbean or island framing.
- UNESCO-aware execution – Colombian SCA architects and structural engineers, Alcaldía Mayor de Cartagena permitting, IPCC UNESCO World Heritage consent for Centro Histórico, hurricane-rated detailing.
Areas we serve

How a Cartagena project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (Alcaldía Mayor, IPCC UNESCO, hurricane, structure).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and approvals
Load calculations with Colombian-licensed structural engineer, Alcaldía Mayor de Cartagena permitting, IPCC UNESCO World Heritage consent.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from Colombian-Caribbean nurseries and pre-conditioned for the Cartagena climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Cartagena?
- Yes. Most of our Cartagena work is Centro Histórico, San Diego, Getsemaní, Bocagrande, Castillogrande, Manga, Tierra Bomba, Barú and Islas del Rosario.
- How do you handle UNESCO Centro Histórico review?
- Through experienced Colombian SCA-registered architects and IPCC-trained heritage consultants. UNESCO-protected palacete rooftops require careful early engagement.
- How long does a typical Cartagena project take?
- Between five and fourteen months from first conversation to handover. Larger Centro Histórico palacetes or Islas del Rosario private-island estates often need eight to fourteen months.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
