Why Chamonix is different

Mont Blanc backdrop, glacier proximity, and Belle Époque heritage

Chamonix rooftops sit at 1035 metres in the shadow of Mont Blanc, framed by the Aiguilles du Midi and the Mer de Glace. Long cold winters with heavy snow load, brilliant short mild summers, intense glacier-reflected UV, and freeze-thaw cycles testing every detail. The Belle Époque historic centre carries ABF consent; surrounding chalet quarters operate under Mairie de Chamonix building rules.

We work in this tension daily: with French architects (ordre des architectes) and structural engineers, with ABF and Haute-Savoie consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Chamonix clients between Les Praz chalets, Argentière hillside homes and Mont Blanc-facing estates. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, ultra-hardy Mont Blanc curation, and the wellness elements (spa, sauna, outdoor kitchen) that turn a Chamonix chalet roof into a year-round sanctuary in the shadow of Europe\'s highest peak.

Our Chamonix approach

Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration

  • Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation.
  • Mont Blanc palette – evergreen structure (Swiss stone pine, larch, juniper, mountain pine, silver fir), Mont Blanc natives (alpine roses, gentian, bilberry, alpine asters), short-season ornamental layers.
  • Wellness architecture – spa, sauna and outdoor kitchen integration with Mont Blanc framing and snow-load engineering.
  • Heritage-aware execution – French architects (ordre des architectes) and structural engineers, ABF consent in historic centre, Haute-Savoie permitting.

Areas we serve

Across the Mont Blanc valley

Most of our Chamonix work is concentrated in Mont Blanc-facing chalets and hillside estates across the valley. We also handle select hospitality projects.

How a Chamonix project unfolds

From first conversation to handover

  1. 01

    Understanding before drawing

Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (snow load, ABF, structure, microclimate).

  2. 02

    Concept and curation

A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.

  3. 03

    Engineering and consent

Load calculations with structural engineer, ordre des architectes sign-off, ABF consent in protected zones, snow-load engineering.

  4. 04

    Installation and handover

Our team installs on site over one to several weeks during the late spring–summer window. Plants are sourced from French alpine nurseries and pre-conditioned for the Mont Blanc climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.

Frequently asked

What clients usually want to know first

Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Chamonix?
Yes. Most of our Chamonix work is Les Praz and Argentière chalet rooftops, Chamonix-centre Belle Époque penthouses, hillside chalets above Les Houches and Saint-Gervais.
How do you handle Mont Blanc winters?
With ultra-hardy Mont Blanc-valley plant material, snow-load engineering, frost-proof substrate and materials specified for glacier-reflected UV.
How long does a typical Chamonix project take?
Between four and twelve months from first conversation to handover. Larger Mont Blanc-facing chalets often need eight to fourteen months because the installation window is constrained to late spring and summer.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
