Rooftop Terrace Design · Charlotte
From Myers Park to Lake Norman
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Charlotte's most discerning Myers Park heritage estates and Lake Norman waterfront properties, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and storm-rated wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Charlotte is different
Banking capital of the South, Myers Park tradition, and Lake Norman lifestyle
Charlotte is the second-largest US banking centre after New York. Myers Park forms the historic estate belt (originally designed by John Nolen); Eastover and Foxcroft preserve the heritage residential tradition; SouthPark anchors the contemporary HNWI market; Dilworth holds the historic Streetcar-era neighbourhood; Ballantyne and Providence Plantation represent the gated-community expansion; Lake Norman extends the lifestyle to the waterfront. Climate is humid subtropical Piedmont – hot humid summers, mild winters with occasional ice.
We work in this tension daily: with AIA Charlotte-licensed architects and structural engineers, with City of Charlotte and Historic District Commission consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Charlotte clients between Myers Park, Eastover and Foxcroft heritage estates, SouthPark penthouses, Dilworth townhouses, Ballantyne and Providence Plantation gated communities, plus Lake Norman waterfront properties. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Piedmont-Southern curation, and the wellness elements (sunset terrace, outdoor kitchen, pool deck, shaded pergola) that turn a Charlotte rooftop into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Charlotte approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation under Piedmont humidity and storm stress.
- Piedmont-Southern palette – structural specimens (Southern magnolia, dogwood, crape myrtle, oak, river birch), Piedmont evergreens (camellia, gardenia, holly, boxwood), flowering accents (azalea, rhododendron, hydrangea, jasmine), Carolina garden plants.
- Wellness architecture – sunset terrace, outdoor kitchen, pool deck and shaded pergola integration with skyline or Lake Norman framing.
- Storm-aware execution – AIA Charlotte architects and structural engineers, City of Charlotte permitting, Historic District Commission heritage consent for Dilworth/Myers Park/Fourth Ward, storm-rated planters.

How a Charlotte project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (City of Charlotte, Historic District Commission, thunderstorm, structure).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and approvals
Load calculations with North Carolina-licensed structural engineer, City of Charlotte Planning Design & Development permitting, Historic District Commission heritage consent.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from Carolina and Southern Appalachian nurseries and pre-conditioned for the Charlotte climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
