Why Doha is different
Desert heat, Gulf coast, and the discipline of shade
Doha rooftops sit at the extreme end of environmental challenge. Summer temperatures regularly above 45°C, intense UV, salt spray along the Corniche and Pearl, dust from shamal wind events, scarce freshwater. A European plant palette cannot simply be transplanted – Doha demands a fundamentally different design logic built around shade architecture, microclimate and ecological substrate.
We work with this discipline daily: with Qatari architects who handle MME approvals, with irrigation specialists who design for Gulf water reality, and with the lifestyle expectations of villa owners on The Pearl and Lusail. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, drought-adapted curation, and the wellness elements (pool deck, majlis, outdoor kitchen) that turn a Doha rooftop into a year-round sanctuary.

- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships dramatically reduce water demand and replace chemical fertilisation in the Gulf climate.
- Drought-adapted palette – native and Mediterranean accents (olive, date palm, frangipani, bougainvillea), drought-tolerant structure (Ficus nitida, Conocarpus, succulents) and shade-tolerant interior layers.

From first conversation to handover

Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the rooftop, early constraint mapping (heat, sun path, salt exposure, water).

Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, shade-architecture moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.

Engineering and approvals
Load calculations with structural engineer, irrigation design, MME approvals where required, coordination with the building's architect and interior designer.

Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from regional Gulf nurseries and pre-conditioned for the Qatari climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
