Rooftop Terrace Design · Hamburg
From Harvestehude to Blankenese
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Hamburg's most discerning Alstervilla and Elbchaussee residences, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Hamburg is different
Hanseatic discipline, oceanic climate, and the rhythm of water
Hamburg rooftops sit between Alster and Elbe in one of Germany's most water-defined cities. Climate is oceanic-influenced: relatively mild winters, cool wet summers, frequent westerly wind events that test every fixing. Denkmalschutz protects significant portions of the city including the Speicherstadt UNESCO ensemble; Hanseatic restraint sets the cultural baseline.
We work in this tension daily: with Hamburg-based Tragwerksplaner and architectural practices, with Denkmalschutz consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Hanseatic clients who value substance over display. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, wind-tolerant curation, and the wellness elements (spa, sauna, outdoor kitchen) that turn a Hamburg roof into a year-round sanctuary above the water.

Our Hamburg approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation.
- Oceanic plant palette – evergreen structure (yew, boxwood, holly, hornbeam), wind-tolerant accents (hydrangea, viburnum, rugosa rose, ornamental grasses), Mediterranean accents in sheltered microclimates.
- Wellness architecture – spa, sauna and outdoor kitchen integration with Alster and Elbe views.
- Hanseatic-standard execution – Tragwerksplaner engineering, Denkmalschutz consultation in heritage zones, Bauantrag submissions where required.
Areas we serve
Across Hamburg and the Alster-Elbe corridor
Most of our Hamburg work is concentrated in Alstervilla penthouses, Elbchaussee villa rooftops and HafenCity residences. We also handle select hospitality projects.
How a Hamburg project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (wind exposure, Denkmalschutz, structure).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and consent
Load calculations with Tragwerksplaner, Denkmalschutz consultation in heritage zones, Bauantrag submissions where required, coordination with the building's architect and interior designer.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are pre-conditioned in our Berlin nursery. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Hamburg?
- Yes. Most of our Hamburg work is penthouse residences, Alstervilla roof terraces and Elbchaussee villa rooftops across Harvestehude, Pöseldorf, Blankenese, HafenCity, Othmarschen and Eppendorf.
- How do you handle wind exposure on the Alster and Elbe?
- With wind-tolerant plant species, structurally rated planters and fixings, and wind-aware living screens.
- How long does a typical Hamburg project take?
- Between three and ten months from first conversation to handover. Larger villa terraces with wellness architecture often need six to twelve months of planning.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
