Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Helsinki's most discerning Kaivopuisto penthouses and Westend coastal villas, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Helsinki rooftop terrace at golden hour with curated Nordic planting and Baltic sea view

Why Helsinki is different

Boreal climate, Alvar Aalto heritage, and the rhythm of sauna

Helsinki rooftops sit in one of Europe's most demanding climates. Very long cold winters with frequent nights below -20°C, deep snow load, short brilliant summers under the midnight sun, intense low-angle Nordic UV, salt-laden Baltic air. The city's Functionalism and Alvar Aalto modernist heritage sets the architectural baseline; Museovirasto protects significant portions of the inner city.

We work in this tension daily: with Finnish-licensed structural engineers and landscape architects, with Rakennusvalvonta permitting and Museovirasto consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Helsinki clients between Kaivopuisto penthouses, Westend coastal villas and Kuusisaari residences. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Boreal-anchored curation, and the wellness elements (sauna, spa, outdoor kitchen) that turn a Helsinki roof into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Helsinki approach

Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration

  • Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation in the Boreal soil envelope.
  • Boreal-anchored palette – evergreen structure (Scots pine, Norway spruce, juniper, common yew), Finnish natives (rowan, birch, bilberry, lingonberry, sea buckthorn), seasonal layers and short-season Boreal perennials.
  • Wellness architecture – Finnish-tradition sauna and outdoor kitchen integration with Baltic framing.
  • Heritage-aware execution – Finnish-licensed structural engineers, Rakennusvalvonta permitting, Museovirasto heritage consultation.

How a Helsinki project unfolds

From first conversation to handover

  1. 01

    Understanding before drawing

Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (winter exposure, snow load, structure, heritage).

  2. 02

    Concept and curation

A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.

  3. 03

    Engineering and permitting

Load calculations with Finnish-licensed structural engineer, Rakennusvalvonta permitting, Museovirasto consultation in heritage zones, snow-load engineering.

  4. 04

    Installation and handover

Our team installs on site over one to several weeks during the late spring–summer window. Plants are sourced from Finnish and Nordic nurseries and pre-conditioned for Boreal conditions. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.

Frequently asked

What clients usually want to know first

Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Helsinki?
Yes. Most of our Helsinki work is Kaivopuisto and Eira penthouses, Ullanlinna classic-building rooftops, Westend and Kuusisaari coastal villas, and Munkkiniemi/Lehtisaari residences.
How do you handle Boreal winters?
With ultra-hardy Boreal plant material, snow-load engineering, frost-proof substrate composition and materials specified for the very long winter envelope.
How long does a typical Helsinki project take?
Between four and twelve months from first conversation to handover. Larger Kaivopuisto or Westend villas often need eight to fourteen months because the installation window is constrained to late spring and summer.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
