Why Kraków is different

UNESCO Old Town, the Kazimierz quarter, and Lesser Poland tradition

Kraków is the cultural capital of Poland and one of the most heritage-rich Eastern European cities, with Stare Miasto and Wawel UNESCO-protected. Wola Justowska and Salwator form the historic HNWI villa belt; Kazimierz preserves the Jewish-heritage quarter; Zwierzyniec adds the hillside dimension. Climate is humid continental – hot dry summers, cold snowy winters.

We work in this tension daily: with Izba Architektów-registered architects and structural engineers, with Urząd Miasta Krakowa and Małopolski Konserwator consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Kraków clients between Stare Miasto townhouses, Kazimierz residences, Wola Justowska villas, Salwator and Zwierzyniec hillside estates, Bronowice Małe and Tyniec suburban properties. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Lesser Poland curation, and the wellness elements (sunset terrace, outdoor kitchen, sauna pavilion) that turn a Kraków rooftop into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Kraków approach

Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration

  • Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation under continental winter and Vistula humidity.
  • Lesser Poland palette – structural specimens (oak, beech, hornbeam, magnolia, linden), Lesser Poland evergreens (boxwood, holly, yew, juniper), flowering accents (hydrangea, peony, rose, jasmine, lilac), continental accents, Polish manor-garden plants.
  • Wellness architecture – sunset terrace, outdoor kitchen, sauna pavilion and pergola integration with Wawel or Vistula framing.
  • UNESCO-aware execution – Izba Architektów architects and structural engineers, Urząd Miasta Krakowa permitting, Małopolski Konserwator heritage consent, UNESCO Stare Miasto review.

How a Kraków project unfolds

From first conversation to handover

  1. 01

    Understanding before drawing

Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (Urząd Miasta, Konserwator, UNESCO, structure, snow load).

  2. 02

    Concept and curation

A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.

  3. 03

    Engineering and approvals

Load calculations with Polish-licensed structural engineer, Urząd Miasta Krakowa permitting, Małopolski Konserwator Zabytków heritage consent.

  4. 04

    Installation and handover

Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from Lesser Poland nurseries and pre-conditioned for the Kraków climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
