Rooftop Terrace Design · Lyon
From the 6e to Caluire
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Lyon's most discerning 6e arrondissement penthouses and hillside villas, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Lyon is different
Two rivers, Renaissance heritage, and the gastronomic tradition
Lyon rooftops sit between the Rhône and Saône, at one of the most historically layered points in France. The climate is temperate semi-continental – hot summers, cold winters, occasional mistral. Vieux-Lyon is UNESCO-protected, as is much of the Presqu'île; the city's Renaissance traboules and silk-worker history shape every neighbourhood. The French gastronomic capital sets the tone for outdoor living.
We work in this tension daily: with French architects (ordre des architectes) and structural engineers, with ABF heritage consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Lyon clients between 6e arrondissement penthouses, Vieux-Lyon Renaissance terraces and Caluire/Écully hillside villas. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, refined French curation, and the wellness elements (outdoor kitchen, spa, sauna) that turn a Lyon roof into a year-round sanctuary above the two rivers.

Our Lyon approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation.
- Semi-continental French palette – evergreen structure (yew, boxwood, holm oak, olive in sheltered locations, hornbeam), seasonal layers (Japanese maple, hydrangea, wisteria, climbing roses, jasmine), Rhône-Alpes natives and aromatic accents.
- Wellness architecture – outdoor kitchen, spa and sauna integration with two-river framing.
- Heritage-aware execution – French architects (ordre des architectes), structural engineers, ABF consultation in UNESCO Vieux-Lyon and Presqu'île zones.
Areas we serve
Across Lyon and the western hillsides
Most of our Lyon work is concentrated in 6e arrondissement penthouses, Vieux-Lyon Renaissance terraces and western-hillside villas. We also handle select hospitality projects.
How a Lyon project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (heritage, mistral, structure, microclimate).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and consent
Load calculations with structural engineer, ABF consultation in UNESCO zones, ordre des architectes architectural sign-off.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from French and Rhône-Alpes nurseries and pre-conditioned for the climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Lyon?
- Yes. Most of our Lyon work is 6e arrondissement penthouses, Vieux-Lyon Renaissance roof gardens, Croix-Rousse silk-quarter terraces, and hillside villas in Caluire, Tassin, Écully and Charbonnières.
- How do you handle ABF consent in UNESCO zones?
- With early ABF consultation, ordre des architectes architectural sign-off, and material specification that respects the Renaissance and 19th-century vocabulary of Vieux-Lyon and the Presqu'île.
- How long does a typical Lyon project take?
- Between three and ten months from first conversation to handover. Larger hillside villas with wellness architecture often need six to twelve months of planning.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
