Rooftop Terrace Design · Macau
From Penha Hill to Cotai
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Macau's most discerning hillside residences and integrated-resort penthouses, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Macau is different
Chinese-Portuguese heritage, typhoon-grade weather, and the rhythm of the Delta
Macau holds one of the most unique heritage stacks in Asia – over four centuries of Chinese-Portuguese cultural overlay protected as a UNESCO Historic Centre. Climate is humid subtropical with hot wet summers, typhoon season May–October, salt-laden Pearl River Delta air, and high humidity year-round. The IAM, DSSOPT and Cultural Affairs Bureau set the regulatory baseline.
We work in this tension daily: with Macau-licensed architects and structural engineers, with DSSOPT permitting and Cultural Affairs Bureau heritage consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Macau clients between Penha Hill and Sai Van panoramic terraces, Cotai integrated-resort residences, Taipa private villas and Coloane heritage estates. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Cantonese-tropical curation, and the wellness elements (tea terrace, outdoor kitchen, shaded pavilion) that turn a Macau rooftop into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Macau approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation under typhoon stress and Delta humidity.
- Cantonese-tropical palette – structural specimens (Ficus, Bauhinia, Magnolia, Cycads), tropical evergreens (Camellia, Gardenia, Osmanthus, Ixora), flowering accents (bougainvillea, plumeria, hibiscus, jasmine), wind-tolerant ornamentals.
- Wellness architecture – tea terrace, outdoor kitchen, shaded pavilion and pool deck integration with Outer Harbour or Penha framing.
- Heritage- and typhoon-aware execution – Macau-licensed architects and structural engineers, DSSOPT permitting, Cultural Affairs Bureau consent, typhoon-rated planters and anchoring.

How a Macau project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (DSSOPT, Cultural Affairs, typhoon, structure).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and approvals
Load calculations with Macau-licensed structural engineer, Cultural Affairs Bureau consent for UNESCO interventions, DSSOPT permitting, IAM environmental review.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks, ideally outside typhoon season. Plants are sourced from Cantonese nurseries and pre-conditioned for the Macau climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Macau?
- Yes. Most of our Macau work is Penha Hill, Sai Van, Cotai, Taipa and Coloane.
- How do you handle typhoon season?
- With typhoon-rated planters, wind-tolerant ornamentals, anchored irrigation systems, and installation scheduling outside the May–October typhoon window.
- How long does a typical Macau project take?
- Between five and twelve months from first conversation to handover. Larger Penha Hill or Sai Van estates often need eight to fourteen months of planning.
