Rooftop Terrace Design · Melbourne
From Toorak to the Mornington Peninsula
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Melbourne's most discerning Toorak penthouses, beachside residences and Mornington Peninsula estates, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Melbourne is different
Variable climate, design culture, and the rhythm of laneways
Melbourne rooftops sit under a famously variable climate – the city's "four seasons in one day" mantra captures a real engineering challenge. Temperate oceanic baseline with occasional heat waves above 40°C, strong southerly cool changes, intense UV. Heritage overlays cover much of the inner south-east; the city's design culture rivals Milan or Copenhagen.
We work in this tension daily: with Victoria-registered structural engineers and landscape architects, with VBA consent consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Melbourne clients between Toorak penthouses, Brighton beachside residences and Mornington Peninsula estates. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Mediterranean-Australian curation, and the wellness elements (pool deck, spa, outdoor kitchen) that turn a Melbourne roof into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Melbourne approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation.
- Mediterranean-Australian palette – evergreen structure (olive, citrus, holm oak, lillypilly, magnolia), native accents (Banksia, grevillea, kangaroo paw, eucalypt), aromatic Mediterranean layers, seasonal layers.
- Wellness architecture – pool deck, spa, sauna and outdoor kitchen integration with Bay or city framing.
- Regulation-aware execution – Victoria-registered structural engineers, VBA consent, heritage overlay consultation in protected suburbs.
Areas we serve
Across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula
Most of our Melbourne work is concentrated in inner south-east villas, Toorak penthouses and beachside estates. We also handle select hospitality projects.
How a Melbourne project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (UV, southerly changes, heritage overlay, structure).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and consent
Load calculations with Victoria-registered structural engineer, VBA consent, heritage overlay consultation, coordination with the building's architect and interior designer.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from Australian nurseries and pre-conditioned for the project's microclimate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Melbourne?
- Yes. Most of our Melbourne work is Toorak and South Yarra penthouses, Brighton beachside residences, and villa rooftops in Hawthorn, Kew, Malvern and Armadale, plus weekend estates on the Mornington Peninsula.
- How do you handle the variable Melbourne climate?
- With plant material that handles wide temperature swings, UV-stable material specification, and substrate composition designed for both heat waves and cool southerly changes.
- How long does a typical Melbourne project take?
- Between three and ten months from first conversation to handover. Larger estates with wellness architecture often need six to twelve months of planning.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
