Rooftop Terrace Design · Oslo
From Frogner to Holmenkollen
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Oslo's most discerning Frogner penthouses and hillside villas, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Oslo is different
Fjord geography, Nordic winters, and the hillside light
Oslo rooftops sit between the Oslofjord and the surrounding hills, in one of Europe's most demanding climates. Long cold winters with deep snow, short brilliant summers, intense low-angle Nordic UV, salt-laden fjord air. Riksantikvaren protects significant portions of central Oslo; Plan- og bygningsetaten runs permitting with Norwegian precision.
We work in this tension daily: with Norwegian-licensed architects and structural engineers, with permitting and heritage consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Oslo clients between Frogner penthouses, Holmenkollen hillside villas and Bygdøy coastal residences. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Nordic-anchored curation, and the wellness elements (sauna, spa, outdoor kitchen) that turn an Oslo roof into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Oslo approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation in the Boreal soil envelope.
- Nordic-anchored palette – evergreen structure (Norway spruce, Scots pine, juniper, yew), Norwegian natives (rowan, birch, bilberry, lingonberry, alpine roses), seasonal layers and short-season Boreal perennials.
- Wellness architecture – sauna, spa and outdoor kitchen integration with fjord and city framing.
- Heritage-aware execution – Norwegian-licensed structural engineers, Plan- og bygningsetaten permitting, Riksantikvaren consultation in heritage zones.
Areas we serve
Across Oslo and the surrounding hills
Most of our Oslo work is concentrated in Frogner penthouses, Holmenkollen and Vinderen hillside villas, and Bygdøy coastal residences. We also handle select hospitality projects.
How an Oslo project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (winter, snow load, structure, heritage).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and permitting
Load calculations with Norwegian-licensed structural engineer, Plan- og bygningsetaten permitting, Riksantikvaren consultation, snow-load engineering.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks during the late spring–summer window. Plants are sourced from Norwegian and Nordic nurseries and pre-conditioned for the climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Oslo?
- Yes. Most of our Oslo work is Frogner classic-building penthouses, Holmenkollen and Vinderen hillside villas, Bygdøy and Bestum coastal residences, plus Tjuvholmen and Aker Brygge harbour-edge homes.
- How do you handle Norwegian winters?
- With ultra-hardy Norwegian plant material, snow-load engineering, frost-proof substrate composition and materials specified for the long winter envelope.
- How long does a typical Oslo project take?
- Between four and twelve months from first conversation to handover. Larger Holmenkollen or Bygdøy estates often need eight to fourteen months because the installation window is constrained to late spring and summer.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
