Why Perth is different

Western Australian mining capital, Fremantle Doctor seabreeze, and Swan River

Perth is the Western Australian capital and the home of the Australian mining-billionaire HNWI tradition (Twiggy Forrest, Gina Rinehart, Kerry Stokes corridor). Peppermint Grove is consistently ranked the highest-net-worth WA suburb; Dalkeith and Applecross form the Swan-River-front estate belt; Cottesloe and City Beach anchor the Indian Ocean beachfront market; Mosman Park, Nedlands and Floreat preserve the hillside residential tradition; Swan Valley extends to wine-country. Climate is hot-summer Mediterranean transitioning toward semi-arid – often above 40°C summers, intense UV, Fremantle Doctor seabreeze, Perth Hills wildfire risk.

We work in this tension daily: with AIA WA-licensed architects and structural engineers, with local-council permitting and WALGA design-review consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Perth clients between Peppermint Grove Swan-River-front, Dalkeith and Applecross river-front villas, Cottesloe and City Beach beachfront, Mosman Park, Nedlands and Floreat hillside estates, plus Swan Valley wine-country and South Perth Swan-River projects. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Western Australian Mediterranean curation, and the wellness elements (sunset terrace, outdoor kitchen, pool deck, shaded patio) that turn a Perth rooftop into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Perth approach

Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration

  • Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation under extreme WA summer heat and salt exposure.
  • Western Australian Mediterranean palette – structural specimens (Marri, Jarrah-juvenile, lemon-scented gum, native banksia, grasstree/Xanthorrhoea), WA evergreens (kangaroo paw, native rosemary, Geraldton wax, Acacia), flowering accents (bougainvillea, frangipani, callistemon, grevillea), drought-tolerant succulents.
  • Wellness architecture – sunset terrace, outdoor kitchen, pool deck and shaded patio integration with Swan River, Indian Ocean or Perth Hills framing.
  • Heat- and fire-aware execution – AIA WA architects and structural engineers, local-council permitting, WALGA design review, fire-zone compliance, extreme-heat-rated planters and irrigation.

How a Perth project unfolds

From first conversation to handover

  1. 01

    Understanding before drawing

Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (local council, WALGA, extreme heat, fire zone, structure).

  2. 02

    Concept and curation

A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.

  3. 03

    Engineering and approvals

Load calculations with WA-licensed structural engineer, local-council permitting, WALGA design-review consent.

  4. 04

    Installation and handover

Our team installs on site over one to several weeks, ideally outside December–February peak summer. Plants are sourced from Western Australian nurseries and pre-conditioned for the Perth climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.

Frequently asked

What clients usually want to know first

Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Perth?
Yes. Most of our Perth work is Peppermint Grove, Dalkeith, Cottesloe, City Beach, Mosman Park, Applecross, Nedlands and Swan Valley.
How do you handle 40°C+ heatwaves and wildfire zones?
With Western Australian native plant material engineered for extreme heat, fire-rated detailing on Perth Hills properties, drip irrigation, and shaded patio structures sized for sustained heatwaves.
How long does a typical Perth project take?
Between five and fourteen months from first conversation to handover. Larger Peppermint Grove or Dalkeith Swan-River-front estates often need eight to fourteen months.
