Rooftop Terrace Design · Porto
From Foz do Douro to Vila Nova de Gaia
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Porto's most discerning Atlantic coastal terraces and Douro-view penthouse rooftops, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Porto is different
Atlantic light, granite architecture, and the steady tempo of the Douro
Porto is shaped by the Atlantic and the Douro. The UNESCO Historic Centre, the Porto School architectural tradition and the granite-and-azulejo material vocabulary set the lifestyle baseline. Climate is warm Mediterranean with Atlantic moderation – cool wet winters, mild dry summers, and salt-laden Atlantic wind across Foz. The Direção Geral do Património Cultural and the Câmara Municipal protect heritage interventions across central neighbourhoods.
We work in this tension daily: with Portuguese-licensed architects and structural engineers, with Câmara Municipal permitting consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Porto clients between Foz do Douro coastal terraces, Boavista and Lordelo do Ouro penthouses, Aldoar and Massarelos villas, and Vila Nova de Gaia Douro-view estates. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, Atlantic-Mediterranean curation, and the wellness elements (loggia, outdoor kitchen, dining terrace) that turn a Porto rooftop into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Porto approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation under Atlantic salt exposure and wet winters.
- Atlantic-Mediterranean palette – structural specimens (citrus, olive, Trachycarpus), Mediterranean evergreens (rosemary, lavender, myrtle, oleander), flowering accents (camellia, hydrangea, bougainvillea), Atlantic-tolerant ferns, kitchen-garden plants.
- Wellness architecture – loggia, dining terrace, outdoor kitchen and pergola integration with Atlantic or Douro framing.
- Heritage-aware execution – Portuguese-licensed architects and structural engineers, Câmara Municipal and IGESPAR consultation, salt-resistant detailing for Foz coastal rooftops.
Areas we serve
Across the Douro estuary and the Porto coast
Most of our Porto work is concentrated in Foz do Douro, Boavista, Aldoar, Massarelos and Vila Nova de Gaia. We also handle select hospitality projects along the Norte region.
How a Porto project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (Câmara Municipal, salt, structure, Atlantic exposure).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and approvals
Load calculations with Portuguese-licensed structural engineer, IGESPAR heritage consent where required, Câmara Municipal do Porto permitting.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from Iberian nurseries and pre-conditioned for the Porto climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Porto?
- Yes. Most of our Porto work is Foz do Douro, Boavista, Aldoar, Massarelos and Vila Nova de Gaia.
- How do you handle Atlantic salt exposure?
- With salt-tolerant plant material, salt-resistant detailing on coastal rooftops, and drainage engineered for cool wet winters and salt-laden wind.
- How long does a typical Porto project take?
- Between four and ten months from first conversation to handover. Larger Foz coastal or Douro-view estates often need six to twelve months of planning.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
