Rooftop Terrace Design · Rome
From Parioli to Aventino
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Rome's most discerning palazzo attici and villa rooftops, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Rome is different
Mediterranean light, UNESCO silhouette, and palazzo attici
Rome rooftops sit above one of the most layered cityscapes on earth. The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site with the strictest Soprintendenza consent imaginable. Climate is classic Mediterranean – hot dry summers above 35°C, intense UV, occasional scirocco events bringing Saharan dust, mild winters that still allow Mediterranean accents year-round.
We work in this tension daily: with Italian architects, structural engineers and Soprintendenza consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of Roman clients living between attico, Olgiata villa and weekend Toscana retreats. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, classic Mediterranean curation, and the wellness elements (pool deck, outdoor kitchen, spa) that turn a Roman roof into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Rome approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation and dramatically reduce irrigation demand.
- Classic Mediterranean palette – evergreen structure (olive, citrus, holm oak, Italian cypress), aromatic accents (lavender, rosemary, sage, jasmine), sculptural specimens (Phoenix, agave, bougainvillea, oleander).
- Wellness architecture – pool deck, spa and outdoor kitchen integration with shade pergolas and microclimate cooling.
- Heritage-aware execution – load calculations with structural engineers, Soprintendenza consultation in UNESCO heritage zones, SCIA and CILA submissions where required.
Areas we serve
Across the eternal city
Most of our Rome work is concentrated in penthouse attici and palazzo roof gardens. We also handle select hospitality projects.
How a Rome project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (heritage zone, sun path, structure, water).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and consent
Load calculations with structural engineer, Soprintendenza consultation in heritage zones, SCIA/CILA submissions where required, coordination with the building's architect and interior designer.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from Italian nurseries and pre-conditioned for the project's microclimate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Rome?
- Yes. Most of our Rome work is attic terraces and palazzo roof gardens across Parioli, Aventino, Trastevere, Prati, the Centro Storico and Pinciano, plus villas in Olgiata and EUR.
- How do you handle Soprintendenza consent in the historic centre?
- With early Soprintendenza consultation in UNESCO heritage zones, SCIA/CILA submissions where required, and material specification that respects the protected silhouette of Rome.
- How long does a typical Rome project take?
- Between three and ten months from first conversation to handover. Larger palazzo gardens with wellness architecture often need six to twelve months of planning.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
