Rooftop Terrace Design · Toronto
From Yorkville to the Bridle Path
Berlin-based manufactory delivering rooftop terrace concepts to Toronto's most discerning Yorkville penthouses, Forest Hill residences and Bridle Path estates, with plant design, outdoor kitchens and wellness architecture under one curatorial hand.

Why Toronto is different
Severe winters, lake-effect weather, and Bridle-Path estate culture
Toronto rooftops sit in one of the most demanding winter climates of any major North American city. Below -15°C nights, heavy snow events, lake-effect weather pushing humidity and storms inland from Lake Ontario. Warm humid summers test cooling and irrigation. Building consent runs through the City of Toronto Building Permits, with heritage consent in protected districts.
We work in this tension daily: with Ontario-licensed structural engineers and landscape architects, with permitting and heritage consultants, and with the lifestyle expectations of clients between Yorkville penthouses, Forest Hill residences and Bridle Path estates. Our role is the plant and outdoor lifestyle layer – ecological substrate, ultra-hardy curation, and the wellness elements (spa, sauna, outdoor kitchen) that turn a Toronto roof into a year-round sanctuary.

Our Toronto approach
Curated plants, ecological substrate, lifestyle integration
- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation.
- Ultra-hardy Canadian palette – evergreen structure (yew, dwarf pine, juniper, holly), four-season layers (Japanese maple, oakleaf hydrangea, witch hazel), Canadian natives (sweetfern, serviceberry, ninebark), resilient climbers.
- Wellness architecture – spa, sauna and outdoor kitchen integration with city or estate framing. Winter-resilient systems and snow-load engineering.
- Regulation-aware execution – Ontario-licensed structural engineers, Toronto Building Permits, heritage consent in protected districts.
Areas we serve
Across Toronto and the GTA
Most of our Toronto work is concentrated in central penthouse residences, Forest Hill and Rosedale homes, and Bridle Path and suburban estates. We also handle select hospitality projects.
How a Toronto project unfolds
From first conversation to handover
- 01
Understanding before drawing
Site visit (or detailed remote survey for first conversations from Berlin), discussion of the people and rhythm using the terrace, early constraint mapping (winter exposure, snow load, structure, lake-effect weather).
- 02
Concept and curation
A small set of plant compositions, material moodboards, wellness element placement. Always optionality.
- 03
Engineering and permitting
Load calculations with Ontario-licensed structural engineer, Toronto Building Permits workflow, heritage consent in protected districts where required.
- 04
Installation and handover
Our team installs on site over one to several weeks. Plants are sourced from Ontario nurseries and pre-conditioned for the climate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology.
Frequently asked
What clients usually want to know first
- Do you work on rooftop terrace projects in Toronto?
- Yes. Most of our Toronto work is Yorkville penthouses, Forest Hill and Rosedale residences, Bridle Path estates and suburban rooftops in Oakville and King City.
- How do you handle Canadian winters?
- With ultra-hardy plant material, frost-proof substrate composition, snow-load-rated structures and materials specified for freeze-thaw cycles.
- How long does a typical Toronto project take?
- Between four and twelve months from first conversation to handover. Larger Bridle Path or suburban estates with wellness architecture often need eight to fourteen months of planning.

The first call is unhurried – understanding before any concept. We travel from Berlin for site visits when the project warrants it.
