Berlin sits on Brandenburg sandy soil and lives a continental climate: hot dry summers with severe inner-city heat-island peaks, cold dry winters, frequent westerly wind, lower annual precipitation than any other DACH city. The substrate beneath the city behaves differently than Bavarian loam or Rhineland alluvial – water moves through faster, nutrient retention is naturally low. Substrate stratification and mycorrhizal partnerships matter more here than in any other German market.

- Symbiosis methodology – mycorrhizal partnerships, effective microorganisms and humus building replace chemical fertilisation. Decisive on Berlin sandy substrates where natural nutrient levels are low.
- Berlin-tolerant palette – heat and drought tolerant structural specimens (black locust, juneberry, mountain ash, yew, cornelian cherry), low-maintenance steppe-affinity perennials (feather grass, yarrow, lavender Hidcote), Mediterranean accents (olive in pots with winter shelter).
- Wellness architecture – whirlpool, sauna, outdoor kitchen in steel or oak, integrated into wind- and sun-protected pergolas. Inner-city heat microclimate flows into every material and load calculation.
- No travel time – on-site visits in any borough within days, not weeks. Bauordnung Berlin permits through the respective Bezirksamt – we know the case officers. Altbau Denkmalpflege coordination in Charlottenburg, Mitte, Schöneberg and Friedrichshain is standard workflow.

From first conversation to handover

Understanding before drawing
On-site visit in the home market, short travel. Understanding of residents, their rhythm and the use. Early reading of sun trajectory, wind, structural capacity and borough-specific requirements.

Concept and curation
Plant compositions, wellness moodboards, material samples for pergolas and pavements. Berlin Altbau material language (wrought steel, oak, restrained slats) vs. Mitte loft language (corten steel, glass, minimal) depending on location.

Engineering and approvals
Load calculations with Berlin-registered structural engineer. Bauantrag under BauO Bln through the Bezirksamt, Denkmalpflege consent where required (Charlottenburg, Mitte, Schöneberg, Friedrichshain). Embassy-quarter discretion in sensitive locations.

Installation and handover
Our team installs in any borough. Plants are sourced from Berlin and Brandenburg nurseries, pre-conditioned for the Berlin microclimate. After handover we offer ongoing care subscriptions following the same symbiosis methodology, with semi-annual inspection.
